  • Suns Sign Leandro Barbosa To 2 Years $8 Million

Leandro Barbosa agrees to 2-year, $8 million contract with Suns, per report - SBNation.com

Free agent guard Leandro Barbosa has agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the Phoenix Suns, reports The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. This will be Barbosa's third stint with the Suns, who originally selected him in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft.

Barbosa has spent the past two seasons playing a bench role for the juggernaut Golden State Warriors. A shifty scoring guard who's an ideal fit as an offensive-minded reserve, he'll be joining a Suns team loaded with young talent in the backcourt. The 33-year-old previous played with Phoenix from 2003-10, then again during the 2013-14 season.

Last season, Barbosa averaged 6.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He's no longer the dynamic threat who averaged 18 points per game off the bench at his peak, but he remains effective in small doses. The 6'3 guard shot 47 percent from the field and 37 percent from three during his two seasons with the Warriors.

In Phoenix, he won't be playing behind a monster one-two punch like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, but the Suns still boast a talented group of guards. Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight provide a bit more experience, while the youthful duo of Devin Booker and Archie Goodwin gives the team something to dream on. Barbosa should fit in there as a versatile scoring option who might open up some trade opportunities for the team down the line.
