  • Rockets Sign Nene Hilario To 3 Years $11 Million

Veteran center Nene agrees to four-year, $15 million deal to re-sign with Houston Rockets

Veteran center Nene has agreed to a four-year, $15 million deal to re-sign with the Houston Rockets, according to a league source.

A source said the deal was done using Nene's non-Bird rights owned by Houston, preserving the Rockets' biannual and midlevel exceptions.

Nene, 34, served as a valuable reserve center for the Rockets after signing for the cap-room exception last season. He averaged 9.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game, shooting a career-best 61.7 percent from the floor.

Nene's numbers improved in the playoffs (10.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 70.6 field goal percentage), but his postseason ended prematurely due to a torn left adductor suffered during Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs. The injury did not require surgery.

Nene has averaged 12.0 points and 6.3 rebounds during his 15-year career with the Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards and Rockets. He has struggled with injuries throughout his career, as his 67 games played last regular season matched his most since 2010-11.

Source: Rockets pull back 4-year deal with Nene because of age rule

Free-agent center Nene "is back at square one" in free agency after the Houston Rockets had to pull back an accepted four-year, $15 million deal due to an age rule, a source told The Undefeated.

Nene and the Rockets agreed to the deal Friday. Houston, however, was not permitted to offer a four-year contract because of the Over 38 rule.

The fourth season of the initially proposed contract would have been during Nene's 38th birthday. The Rockets have countered with a three-year, $10 million offer to Nene that he has not accepted, a source said.

Nene is now back in the free-agent pool and open to talking to other NBA teams, a source said. Houston, however, is optimistic it will work out a contract with the 34-year-old before he is eligible to re-sign.

Nene, Houston Rockets agree to reworked deal

After an original free-agent deal fell apart, Houston Rockets center Nene has agreed to a new three-year, $11 million contract with the team, league sources told ESPN.

Their original four-year contract agreement was nullified Saturday based upon the league's over-38 rule that limits long-term deals, so Nene and the Rockets reached agreement on the new, shorter deal on Sunday.
