Cleveland Cavaliers, Jose Calderon agree to one-year, $2.3M contract
The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a contract with free-agent point guard Jose Calderon, his agency announced Saturday.
Calderon will sign a one-year, $2.3 million deal for the veteran's minimum and become the team's backup point guard behind Kyrie Irving. The decision to commit to Calderon indicates the Cavs will let Deron Williams leave in free agency. Cleveland signed Williams midway through last season to back up Irving.
A 12-year veteran, Calderon will be 36 when next season opens. He averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 assists in 41 games with the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors last season.
