  • Report: No new deal for Mike Wallace in-season

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Steelers and WR Mike Wallace will not talk extension until after the 2012 season.
Wallace reported to camp late and signed his $2.7 million restricted free agent tender, but there was some optimism a long-term deal could be hammered out before Opening Sunday. Not the case, so talks are off for 2012 since the Steelers don't do new deals in-season. Pittsburgh could conceivably slap the franchise tag on Wallace for 2013, but the salary cap has been an issue for the team in recent years. La Canfora notes that James Harrison could be in his last season in the Steel City, so that could free up some money to throw the receiver's way. Wallace is said to be seeking $11 million annually for five years.
