  • Jaguars place Blaine Gabbert, Laurent Robinson on injured reserve

It sure didn't take long for Blaine Gabbert to go from "questionable for this weekend" to "out for the season." The Jaguars announced that Gabbert as well as wide receiver Laurent Robinson were being placed on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

Gabbert suffered a right elbow injury during the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Texans; Chad Henne stepped in and blew up the Houston defense for 354 yards and four touchdowns.

What's odd about this is that on Monday, coach Mike Mularkey said Gabbert was "questionable" to be active against the Titans on Sunday. Here we are on Wednesday and Gabbert's done for the year.

It sure seems a lot like the Jaguars might have wanted to avoid any awkward quarterback controversy; whether Henne plays well against Tennessee is pretty irrelevant now, at least for the immediate future. Henne's the quarterback and if Jacksonville wins some games, he might end up being Mularkey's savior.

He'll have to do it without the help of Robinson, however. The wide receiver, who signed this offseason for $32.5 million over five years with $13.6 million guaranteed, has caught only 24 passes for 252 yards and no touchdowns. He's dealt with injuries, but right now he doesn't look like a particularly fantastic signing for Jacksonville.

Henne will likely lean on rookie Justin Blackmon, who caught seven passes for 236 yards and a touchdown against Houston.

In the event that Henne gets hurt, the Jaguars have John Parker Wilson and Jordan Palmer as potentially available options.
