  • Report: Andy Reid looking to Chargers job

We assume only one game remains before Andy Reid is dismissed from his position as Eagles coach. Though the team hasn't said anything officially, back-to-back disappointing seasons in Philadelphia likely will spell the end of Reid's successful 14-year tenure with the Eagles.

On Friday, Reid talked about not wanting to take a year off after this season. “I want to coach,” he said. “That's what I want to do.” Now, Pro Football Talk is reporting Reid's next stop could be on the opposite coast in San Diego.

That's also what CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported last month.

"The Chargers have been near the top of their division for years and have a former Pro Bowl quarterback in his prime in Philip Rivers," La Canfora wrote. "Reid is a native of Southern California, has a gorgeous home on the beach in the San Diego area and is known to love the area. Plus, as some close to him note, the media and fan climate in San Diego is vastly different from the cauldron that he has worked in."

Reid reportedly is lining up a coaching staff for next season, and he's made it known privately he wants to work for the Chargers, who most likely will fire Norv Turner after Sunday's season finale.

PFT points out that Reid -- who basically was in charge of player personnel with the Eagles -- likely will have less power as the head coach of a new team. And considering San Diego general manager A.J. Smith also likely will be gone after this season, owner Dean Spanos reportedly wants more power for Jimmy Raye (the current player personnel director) and John Spanos (the current director of college scouting).

If Reid truly wants to coach next season in San Diego, he most likely will have less leverage than he had in Philadelphia and might be forced into taking a deal where he's not quite as powerful.
