The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Steven Jackson will indeed void his $7 million player option, making him a free agent on March 12.
He immediately ascends atop the free-agent running back market, passing Reggie Bush, Rashard Mendenhall, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Shonn Greene. Per the Post-Dispatch, Jackson "more than anything" wants to finish his career with a Super Bowl contender, which is understandable considering he hasn't appeared in a playoff game since 2004. Rams beat writer Jim Thomas calls the Falcons "one of the most likely suitors" for S-Jax. The Rams have kept in contact with Jackson, but so far "no numbers have been exchanged." At age 29, Jackson has enough left in the tank to be a fantasy football beast in Atlanta's high-powered offense.
