Redskins hired ex-49ers and Seahawks executive Scot McCloughan as general manager.
It's a four-year deal. Under the new arrangement, current GM Bruce Allen will be promoted to team president. Unlike the situation in Philadelphia, we wouldn't consider this a demotion for Allen. He's reportedly friends with McCloughan, and likely relishing the prospect of stepping away from building the Redskins' 53-man roster, a job he was terrible at. The GM of the 49ers from 2005-10, McCloughan served as an assistant to Seahawks GM John Schneider from 2010 until shortly before last year's draft. He was also drawing interest from the Raiders and Jets. Anyone would be an upgrade on Allen, but McCloughan has a reputation as a strong evaluator.
