  • Bengals Sign A.J. Hawk

A.J. Hawk, Cincinnati Bengals agree to contract - ESPN

The Cincinnati Bengals reached agreement on a two-year contract with former Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk on Tuesday.

"You never completely take your eye off the team you grew up watching," Hawk, who grew up in Centerville, Ohio, said, according to the team's website. "I know of the talent they have here. They have studs everywhere you look. That was a huge factor. I wanted to go to a place and win, and this locker room definitely has that."

The Packers released Hawk, 31, in February, saving $3.5 million against the salary cap.

The move came less than a week after veteran Brad Jones was released. Hawk and Jones opened last season as the Packers' two starting inside linebackers. Coach Mike McCarthy said at the NFL scouting combine that inside linebacker was their greatest need.

Hawk's release ended his nine-year run with the Packers. The fifth overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, he left as the franchise's career tackles leader with 1,118.

His best season was Green Bay's Super Bowl year of 2010, when he was selected to his only Pro Bowl.
