  • Bucs decline 2016 option on RB Doug Martin

The Bucs did not pick up the 2016 fifth-year option on RB Doug Martin.
It was an easy decision for the Bucs, who know there's no way Martin will be worth $5.621 million in 2016. He's sputtered the last two seasons, fighting injuries while averaging just 3.63 YPC and struggling badly in pass protection. Still, Martin will only battle Charles Sims, Bobby Rainey and Mike James for carries this year after the Bucs failed to address the position in free agency or the draft. The Muscle Hamster remains the tentative favorite for early-down work by default, even if reports continue to swirl that the team is high on Sims.
