  • Matt Hasselbeck Retires From NFL

QB Matthew Hasselbeck retires from the NFL and joins ESPN as an NFL analyst

Quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck announced his retirement on Wednesday and will join ESPN as an NFL analyst.

Hasselbeck will be part of ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown this fall.

Hasselbeck, 40, was one the NFL's best stories last season with the Indianapolis Colts. He kept the Colts in the AFC South race by winning his first four starts in place of the injured Andrew Luck.

But Hasselbeck's body couldn't hold up for the duration. Starting with the Week 13 game at Pittsburgh, he momentarily left three straight games with injuries.

His season ended for good when he suffered a right shoulder injury against the Miami Dolphins in Week 16.

Hasselbeck was 156 of 256 passing for 1,690 yards and nine touchdowns last season, going 5-3 as the starter.

The 18-year veteran has passed for 36,638 yards with 212 touchdowns and 153 interceptions in 209 games with the Packers, Seahawks, Titans and Colts.
