ummm yep. Making the chase takes you away from being mediocre, now if the next year you miss it again, back to being mediocre.

Yea Carl's back into a tie for first because NASCAR moved Gordon back in the finishing results for some reason (looked pretty clear he was in front of Bowyer/Edwards when Stewart got wrecked...who knows).

you are a bit out of tocu woth nascar. Making the chase one year with zero wins does not take you out of the mediocrity level for that year lol. Means you were just got lucky and are a little bit above "the suck"

LOL Bowyer is bordeline above mediocre but solid.. I have seen a ton of drivers in my life and been to 50 plus nascar races. Bowyer is not so special... When comparing to JR he is

Updated after Bristol....Chase field is pretty much set, but not official yet. Top-5 plus Keselowski all have locked up Chase berths.

Let's say the Chase was to begin today. In the past the drivers were set up by wins.

Would this be how it would be set up?

1. Kyle (4 wins)
2. Harvick (3 wins)
3. Keselowski (3 wins)
4. Kenseth (2 wins)
5. Gordon (2 wins)
6. Johnson (1 win)
7. Edwards (1 win)
8. Newman (1 win)
9. Kurt Busch (1 win)
10. Hamlin (1 win)
11. Stewart (0 win)
12. Bowyer (0 win)

K-ski will end the regular season in 11th, but would start the Chase in 3rd?

First race of the Chase is over...like they say, can't win the title, but you can lose it first week.

Looks like that applies to Denny Hamlin, who is already a full race behind the leader.

Updated after Dover....looks like we're down to 10 drivers still in contention (realistically probably 9), as Newman and Hamlin are both a full race worth of points behind.
