2011 Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon passes away in horrific crash

So sad. A very horrific 15-car crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has taken the life of the two-time Indy 500 winner.

Thoughts and prayers to all his friends and family. The race has been canceled.

(Dario Franchtti won his 4th IndyCar Championship.)

They finished with a five-lap salute with the drivers that were left. It was sad to see the emotions of all the crew members and family members.

I know it's ridiculous to play the 'what if' game in a time like this, but I can't help but think....

If IndyCar didn't offer a $5 million bonus to any non-full time driver who wins the event, there's a good chance Wheldon wouldn't have even been in the race.

If I was in charge of IndyCar, I would declare Wheldon the winner and give that $5 million to either his family, or start a foundation of whatever was closest to him with it.

these cars are just coufins man. ANyone remember the Zanardi crash where it took his legs off. Thank God he survived but man that was the most graphic crash I ever saw live outside of this one. Here is a still pic of it with pieces of his leg. Just insane. Danica had even commented how the atmosphere was strange during the race yesterday even before the big wreck

Yea, they really need to either make the cars safer, or quit racing on the NASCAR tracks. It's just not safe to go 225+ with hardly any protection around you.

this is a very sad loss for the sport.. its a miracel that no one else was injured the wreck was horrid
