Michael Waltrip Racing suffered huge penalties tonight, after it was determined that Brian Vickers and Clint Bowyer intentionally tanked during the last 10 laps of the Richmond race to help their teammate Martin Truex Jr. earn enough points to make the Chase--NASCAR's playoff.
Michael Waltrip was fined $300,000, MWR GM Ty Norris was suspended from NASCAR indefinitely, and all three of MWR's teams (Truex, Bowyer, Vickers) were fined 50 driver and owner points. The loss of 50 points from Truex's team moved him far enough down in the standings that he lost his Chase spot to Ryan Newman.
