  • Printing Plates

Fairly new to collecting, working on topps 2013 entire set, just noticed a brandon spikes printing plate on sale on ebay at i think 3.50 right now, to me this looks like a great deal, but now im thinking, about how many plates are in the set? They dont actually put every cards plate in the set then do they? Just looking for some friendly, intelligent advice, thanks everyone.

For the 2013 Topps set it looks like they have eight printing plates. Four minis (colored: cyan, yellow, black, magenta) and four normal (colored: cyan, yellow, black, magenta) . They are all 1/1's in case you weren't sure on that either.

because i just did search 2013 topps printing plates on ebay and finding all sorts of them now, i understand they are 1/1's but doesnt it compromise the rarity of "printing plates" if there are so many of them out there?

Yes they have 4 different colored printing plates for each base card. And in reality printing plates aren't entirely to rare. Hence why they don't sell nearly the amount a superfractor or a 1/1 parallel, topps has the platinum parallel.

ahh thank you, this makes it even harder to collect!!!! lol bidding on the spikes plate until it gets over $5 all other plates im seeing going atleast around $10 and about no less then $25 for a well known player. Thank you for all the info, still gets me excited to get this is set completely collected because there is so many different cards.

EDIT: Bah up to 6.00 dont think its worth that plus shipping(3) im out, and i making the right call on this?

Never seen them so I did a little research. Apparently the no name thing happens in pretty much every set of topps (football and baseball). They're not rare at all and the value is well not that much considering what I'm seeing on ebay with the auction you linked to and the rest around the site.
