Hello all. I have been lurking here off and on for a few years. While I would mostly use this web-site to check out product pre-views and reviews, I have become more interested in connecting with other collectors.
I collect primarily football cards. More specifically, Buffalo Bills. Somebody has to do it!
I collected as a kid, like most of us, and then lost interest. In 1986, when the Bills signed Jim Kelly, I became obsessed with getting his first Bills rookie card, to go with my 70's Bills stuff. So ignorant of the hobby was I at the time, I didn't realize his first Bills card wouldn't be issued until 1987, by Topps! Times have changed! If it were today, he would have had 100 cards issued before he ever took a snap in the NFL!
My Bills collection consists of about 16,000 different cards. About 1700 of those cards are autorgraphed cards, and another 1400 are jersey cards. In obtaining all this stuff, I have accumulated so many other cards, from other teams. Recently I have taken to trying to sell off massive team lots, with varying degrees of success. Just running out of room, and it is getting expensive.
Unfortunately, where I live (Austin, TX) the card hobby has died down quite a bit. There are only two shops left in town, and both have limited hours, and are not convenient for me, with my schedule. At one time (late 90's, early 2000's), we had about 10 stores in town. There was lots of pack cracking, and trading going on...no more. I do my collecting, and selling primarily through EBAY, these days, save for the odd pack or two I might purchase at Target. The hobby has changed a lot over the years, but my love of collecting has remained... while I both buy and sell on EBAY, I do a lot more buying than selling. I have likely purchased something from many of the members here, over the years.
I have found, especially in the last 3 years or so, unless I have something I just don't care about, or something that is really high dollar, selling on EBAY can be a lot of work, for very little reward. So, I am interested in trading with people.
