  • Why did ya'll do this??

Apparently a lot of kids that got cards back in the day... 60's... used to keep them in scrap books. My Dad gave me his book a while ago and these are the 2 that I took out and was able to clean the back on. He kept the book, luckily, when he moved out of his house otherwise his Mom would have probably thrown the rest away, which was the style of the time as well...

    Yes, I feel your pain!

We've all been told the stories of our dads turning their bikes into motor bikes with the use of a baseball card and a clothespin. My pops was one of those with these stories, and was also the one who's mom threw em all out one day. Shame, shame!!!

We did it because back then they had NO VALUE. Collecting cards back then was JUST FOR FUN. There were no sleeves, top loaders, or boxes designed for cards. Cards were taped/glued in albums and/or kept in stacks and secured by rubber bands. The cards were played with and put on bicycle spokes. Cards were usually traded card for card, and team for team, as they had no value. Back then no one had the idea that at some time down the road that that would happen. When I was 14 (1965) we moved, and I gave away about 3-4,000 baseball cards, from 1955-1965, because I had grown out of collecting cards (gave them to a lady to give to her 5 year old son). Those cards I gave away would be very valuable today because of all of the HOFer's that were in that group of cards, but who knew back then that that would ever occur. So back to your question "Why did y'all do this?", because it was just for fun and a way not to lose your cards (the taping & gluing them in albums).

      Have a good evening.

I hope I didn't bring up bad memories or offend you Orioles... I was being sarcastic and meant no ill feelings.

No offense was taken, just answering your question. If I'd have had the knowledge that they were going to have VALUE in the FUTURE I might have kept them, but I'd fairly certain I'd still have played with them. It just proves that NO ONE (except God) has the knowledge of what is really down the road in the FUTURE. Again, no problems. Have a good evening
