  • Triple Threads patch/auto #rd /3.....confused!!

Okay, I was lucky enough to land this beauty from a member here on this site a few months ago:
    Nelson Cruz patch/auto 1/3...pretty cool, right?...yes!

Then, last week I won this one for a measly $40 on the Bay.....
    Nelson Cruz patch/auto 3/3!!....even more cool....DEFINETLY!!

Sweet!!! I might actually be able to pursue having all three of this card realease, right?

Now, the confusing part.....searching on the Bay for the missing card 2/3 to have all three of this card, I found this one currently for sale:

WTF?!?!?...another 1/3!!! So, how is there another 1/3 out there?!?!??!......Call me crazy but when a card says only 3 are made, that mean ONLY 3 are made, right??? Is mine, or this one a fake 1/3?? Is there 3 of each saying out there maybe??

    What gives?
    Currently looking for:
    Football: The Gronk!
Basketball: Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen, & Michael Jordan, 90's refractors or #rd stuff, Damon Stoudamire, Penny, etc.
Baseball: Paul Goldschmidt & Mike Trout
+ HOFer slab bed or raw.

Collecting University of Arizona current and Alum players!!!
    Go Cats!!!

I think it has everything to do with the phrasing, where the swatches are. There are probably 3 Boomsticks, 3 Post Seasons, and 3 ALCS Mvp cards.

It would be interesting to see what the card numbers are on each of those.

In looking at the checklist, it's not a card number issue, there are four white whales for each player in that subset, so I'm going to guess there are four variations of this card, with three cards of each phrase variation.

You are correct. Todd, those are actually 3 different cards. Topps is a bit misleading when it comes to serial #'d cards. Another example would be their Topps Moments & Milestones serial #'d cards. Take card #3, for ex., I have 1/10-10/10. I have every card, right? Wrong. Cards 1/10-9/10 is card #3-91, whereas #10/10 is card #3-171, 2 different cards. Its a bit deceiving and can be tricky. But I do have several complete serial #'d sets in my Pujols PC, so if there were 10 printed and I have all 10, then really Ive just made the card a 1/1 because nobody else can own that card. Good luck!

Nice cards, BTW. I love Nelson Cruz. My Cardinals wouldn't have won the 2011 World Series without his help! I wouldn't have had a problem with giving him the World Series MVP!

Thanks Matt, Jerry and Tom for the info...it all makes sense now.....eventually, I think I'll look for the 2/3 (with the seperate phrase than the 2 I have) and call it a day.
