2019 Topps Baseball Series 2 Variations Guide

The flagship MLB set adds more short-printed chase cards with the 2019 Topps Series 2 Baseball variations. At this point, everyone knows the drill. These are the more limited versions of the base cards that normally replace a common image with something a little more fun. Once again, short prints (SP) and super short prints (SSP) are in play.

Taking the base set in the 2019 Topps Series 2 checklist for a spin, base short print (SP) variations are more common and the tougher pulls are the SSP variations of "Legend" cards for retired players or the third photo option for a few modern names. Not all the former players are part of the SSP grouping, though, as many of the variations this time around go with retired stars. The grand total should be 75 SP cards and 25 SSP cards.

The only card disclosed on the final checklist, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is technically not even a variation since his card does not have a more common version or a card number. Revealed to be #700 on the checklist from Topps, the rookie card actually has no number on the back. Based on early observations, it appears to more common than expected, falling about half as often as a standard base card.
