Sotheby’s will sell the typewritten 19th century document that hung on the wall of the gym in Springfield, Mass. at auction today in New York.
The auction has generated a buzz quite unlike anything else the company has handled in recent years–at least on the sports level.
“I think the world of bid
ders for something like this could be enormous,” said Selby Kiffer of Sotheby’s.
He says he wouldn’t be surprised if current and former players bid on the rules, or perhaps a team owner.* Might the NBA itself step forward?
