The best of the 2nd wave ska bands? Maybe. Madness is right there, too. No denying that this songs is fantastic, though.
I just erased a long post about my take on the long running Beckett "scandal". I realized something as I got towards the end. I just don't care enough. I don't read their magazine. I don't take part in their forums. The only time I watch their box break videos are when people are all up in arms over the latest controversy. I don't get free boxes of cards from manufacturers. (That's not saying that I wouldn't love to see one.) I don't even really spend that much money on cards. I wait until the cards I want come in to my price range or I trade for them.
The card collecting hobby isn't a kids game anymore. It hasn't really been since I was a kid. A lot of people aren't in it for the enjoyment, they're in it for the investment. That's fine. There's money to be made. I'm just not one of those people. I don't have a lot of high end autos or expensive cards in my collection. I don't have any really. It would be nice to, but I just don't care to spend that amount of money.
With that being said, I'm kind of starting to think that collecting cardboard is being taken way to seriously. Collecting anything really is materialistic and self-serving, but everybody does it. Some people have to. It can be fun to chase down cards of your favorite players or to complete that set your going after, but you have to keep in mind that when you break it all down, all we're doing is collecting pictures of men on pieces of cardboard. I know that's been said before, but it's true. The world isn't going to fall apart because some companies are taking part in shady practices. You can choose what products to buy and what not to buy. If you don't like what Beckett, Topps, Panini or any of the other companies are doing, then find another way to enjoy the hobby than buying boxes and cases of cards. Yelling and screaming and insults aren't going to change anything. Any press is good press. The only way to make any kind of change in this country anymore is with your wallet. I don't know why anybody would want to pump money into an industry that frustrates them so much. Don't worry about all the stuff that is going on. Really, it doesn't affect any of us personally. If you think it does, then you are one of the people who are taking things too seriously. Beckett loves the fact that we are all talking about this. Do you really think they are going to stop what they are doing now? Just ignore them and have fun.
I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way. I think I'm going to go and look at my Drew Bledsoe collection and smile.
