HELP: Horror Attic Day

Today went up into my attic to look for something and decided to bring down a box of cards I had up there and man I'm screwed.............
Found cards from early 2000's that I thought I had protected but to my dismay they are damaged as I used snap tite holders and seems some cards stuck to the holders so if yyou open it they rip pieces off and others seem to have discolored areas. I decided to stop opening them after the first two got more damaged opening them. I can truely say this is probably the worst day I ever had collecting cards because all the rest of the cards in my attic are probably damaged even worse. Can't believe they still sell snap tites for card storage stay away learn from my mistake. I'm afraid to get the rest of my older cards up there because I could be out thousands depending on the damage. :angry: This is just devestating

Does anyone have any tricks to getting the cards out? I was thinking maybe they will unstick some being in a cooler temperature or something.. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, that stinks, same thing happened to me with some screw downs a few years back, I go with top loaders and small cases now. I would try the temperature thing - play around with it a bit and see what happens.

Your best bet is to put them in a zip lock bag and put them in the freezer. You shouldn't need more than 24 hours or so. If they don't come out of the case (in one piece) after that you are most likely out of luck unfortunately.

ok ill try the freezer trick see if it works. Here's the damage so far prob alot more damage not just snap tites never putting cards in attic again.......Also putting every card in a penny sleeve and if it doesnt fit magnetic or screw then staying in toploader.

Guess only good thing so far is not the greatest players so far..........

Im sorry to hear that. I have a lot of mid 90s Marvel Holograms all in snap tights and luckily none of them got stuck to the front. I placed them in a box inside my closet, so maybe because no sunlight or heat it didnt stick on there.

make sure it is a "modern freezer" that is frost free, not an old school one that seals itself up with frost. Works great for removing cards that are stuck together out of the pack (90's foil cards especially) and has also worked miracles with getting gum off of vintage cards.

the freezer did work to get the cards out hardened them up...........I had one problem because my cards were stuck to the covers before they hardened and still had some paint come off. If you have card on card or packs stuck it will work good. I just am out of luck because the parts stuck were like stone so basically cant open the holders without more risk. Thx for the help everyone. I'm not opening anymore in case anyone wanted them real cheap and leave it up to the owner/trader/buyer if they wanna open them up or leave as is some are good as is just dont wanna risk anymore..................LMK if interested in any already have interest in the Patriots.

Just make sure the holder can fit card with a sleeve over it. Mine had no sleeves because no room to fit cards in with a sleeve thinking it would be ok.
