use common 'unwanted' base for bookmark?

Clearing my book shelf today, found some old beat-up cards in my books.
A Tom Brady RC discovered!! (with 4 soft corners, tinted edges.....it's been inside John Grisham's The Rainmaker for 10 years without protection!)

Still, quite a fun "cleaning my room" experience.

I did that once when I was younger. I used a double Magic Johnson base card from 91-92 Fleer for a bookmark for several years. Then the card got so beat up I tossed it.

Yep, I still do. I have a few beat up dupes of Sox cards that I always use for bookmarks. Like 1987 Topps Bob Stanley's and such!

Last year I showed my son how so many cards were destroyed before my time and turned his bike into a motor bike with some old '91 Fleer commons.

My dad told me stories of old 50's cards being used for this and it still kills me to picture a kid flying down the street with a Mantle singing thru the spokes!!
