  • (Expose) Can anyone say; "Walmart"?

The last place to find big football card hits? No one really goes to Walmart to get a hit, as collectors, frequenting your local sports card hobby shop is the way to go. Once a repoir is made between the shop owner and yourself, great things occur that was impossible in the past. With my wife and myself, we visit our local hobby shop at a minimum of twice a week, sometimes just to say, "Hello"! Trust and customer loyalty are created in such ways, in fact, all big business owners whom are on the "Fortune 500 List" follow these basic tenants. Occasionally a new product will debut, if I have doubts on the new releases, it's a simple enough process to pick up a blaster box from Walmart and see up close if this is a product that you would like to add in your collection without spending a huge amount of money.

So it came to my mind when last years debut of 2012 Panini Crown Royale was released that a trip to Walmart was planned. Although the retail set did not impress me at all, I was shocked when my wife pulled a RGIII relic! This led us to our hobby shop, once there we realized the huge difference in the retail product and the hobby product. The retail base cards were plain and simple, of which I did not care for, the hobby product spewed base cards that were DIE CUTS! This made me a huge fan of Crown Royale. The sticker price was shocking at best, my father always preached; "What you pay for is exactly what you get! This held true for Panini's Crown Royale, on the one hand a retail product that was mediocre at best. On the other? A hobby product that I would die for.

This leads me to share with everyone here, what I searched for over the past few weeks. 2013 Upper Deck. I purchased these hanger packs for one reason, each pack held two Walmart exclusive RGIII cards. In total, a ten card set that was a retail exclusive. I have finally completed the set without spending $80.00 to $90.00 that the hobby edition would have cost. Plus I also have a complete set of rookie cards numbered 51 to 150. Walmart might not be the ideal place for the sports card collector but every now and then you can count on a hidden gem.

I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.

i tend to hit walmart when i'm trying to complete a set. I did it last year w/ upper deck & Topps & 10-11 classics basketball. I have got lucky a couple times & hit autos out of the boxes though. Pulled a Brian Quick rc auto SP out of 2012 Topps which is apparently extremely sp as beckett hasn't priced it & recently got a Kenny Vaccaro Leaf Draft auto.
      -Brady

Looking for mainly Cowboys, Andy Dalton

To pull any type of autos, let alone SP cards is like winning the current powerball!!!!!
The other point that you make is a very pertinant reason for shopping at Walmart. Trying to complete a set, which can be frustrating at times, and achieving your goal at a minimal expense while still enjoying the hobby! I've also gone to Kmart, they lack inventory, the products they tend to carry does not sell. In essence, I'll find a 2008 blaster box of Topps or Score marked down to 50%! I actually found a Joe Flacco RC and Matt Ryan RC in Kmart as well as paying $10.00 for the blaster box that would normally sell for $20.00 at Walmart. Thank you so much in sharing your story here!
