Many people throughout the fifty states celebrate this day with family, friends, food, drink, and fireworks! Such is the state of our consciences and growth. My reason to write this thread today is to ensure and remind all members of CCW; "Please be safe and don't drink and drive"! Not only would your loss affect members of this forum, but think of your family members and friends.
A few years ago, my brother whom resides in Southern California, told me of a terrible and tragic demise of a couple that he had befriended. They were from Southeast Asia, had all of their legal documents taken care of in order to become US Citizens. On the Fourth of July, a drunk driver had taken away their dream of becoming a part of our society. Ironically, they had their lives taken away on a day that we celebrate our freedom from colonialization from England. We are very fortunate to have a country that many had sacrificed their lives so that we may enjoy the good 'ol USA on our terms. I've always have told my children that; "I've been around the world and seen and experienced many things. Our system of democracy might not be perfect, but it is the best system I have seen"!
On a lighter note, I'm sure many of you are grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, and steaks. I've decided to change things around. Today I will be preparing a prime rib and loaded baked potatoes as our celebration for the freedom of our country. Maybe this could be a new tradition for us.
It also got me to contemplate on a very young America. We were the underdogs some two hundred plus years ago. And now the United States are world leaders that take on the responsibility of freedom around the world. Being an underdog is not a bad thing. At times, it can be used to motivate a person in achieving higher goals. Here is a good example. At the start of the 2012 NFL season, the major card companies were producing examples on cardboard of Andrew Luck, RGIII, Ryan Tannehill, and Brandon Weedon to name a few NFL players. No one knew who Russell Wilson, Alfred Morris, and Mark Barron were. In a strange twist of faith, these three elevated their underdog status and became household names like their peers were. They had elevated and motivated themselves to obtain and achieve higher goals! Who knows what to expect from the 2013 draft class? In closing, I wish everyone to have a fantastic and memorable Fourth of July, enjoy your time with love ones and friends. But most importantly drive safely! Have a happy ID4!
