  • Mrs. Toshi's hobby box break's!!!!

We all know how well Mrs. Toshi does in her box breaks. Everyone is also aware of how I like to tell little vignettes of how, why, and when we collect our cards. Today is no different.

I have made it known to everyone in my household and in this forum that I do not get as excited with 2013 box breaks due to the draft picks. Brett (My daughters boyfriend) has continued to scold me in my address that; "I cannot collect cards in such ways". His ideal is that you just never know what rookie is going to have a break out season and which draftee will take his team to the Superbowl! I must agree that he is correct especially when he brings up a situation in the 2000 draft, pick number 199. A unknown Tom Brady who has gone on to win three Superbowls and quite possibly win another one before he retires. He also mentions that Russell Wilson (Whom is his favorite Quarterback) and Alfred Morris were one of many late draftees that were unknown at the beginning of the 2012 season, and have become NFL stars in their own right!

What disturbs me most is the fact that all it takes for one of the great 2012 draft picks to fail is a (God Forbid) career ending injury! Brett tells me the story of Joe Theisman. At first I thought he was full of himself until he made me watch the intro to the movie "Blind Side"! That was absolutely horrible! We all need to carefully go through life and avoid such things to the best of our ability. I'm a good example of such.

Going back to my first hobby cards in 2012, I recall Brett and I, continually hunting for a RGIII or a Andrew Luck card. I also recall how excited my whole family became when we pulled cards of the top draft picks of 2012. With my very first purchase of a Beckett catalog, I realized that 2012 is a special year for fans of the NFL, as well as collectors of NFL cards. You could not purchase a base card of Luck for less than $10.00! Nor could you consider an attempt to making a bid on eBay on a Luck or RGIII auto relic card for less than $200.00! Now when I look into the Beckett price guide, I'm amazed and absolutely shocked by the difference in prices of 2012 draftees and 2013 draftees!

So Brett and I have a adamant solution to this. We will continue to purchase hobby boxes from 2012 up until 2014. Why 2014? That's when the majority of the redemptions expire. All men know that when a woman has made a decision, it is futile to change the mind of a woman, and doing so only creates havoc. Especially when the woman is your wife/girlfriend. As I mentioned on numerous occasions, allow the blame to fall on men and things become easily handled! To do other wise leads to WWIII. So with no more surprised looks from me, Mrs. Toshi has gone on a minor card shopping spree at our local hobby shop, "Collectors Palace". We normally visit twice a week, lately it's been once a month as I've been unable to process simple things. Jokingly, I told Mrs. Toshi that the owner of Collectors Palace must think I've died. On the way home, guess where we made a detour to?

Before I start the pictorial breaks, I have a question to anyone whom can help me. Mrs. Toshi has pointed out that the base card of 2013 Elite of Adrian Peterson does not have the identification number that is normally on the back of the card. When we looked into the set checklist via Cardboard Connection, the card number is 57. Any assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated! And as always, thank you in advance.

    Thank you,

    Mrs. Toshi & Toshi

Here is my review on the 2013 Press Pass Gameday Gallery and 2013 Panini Elite hobby box.

Besides the 2013 Elite hobby box purchase today, Mrs. Toshi and I have also purchased ’13 Press Pass Gameday Gallery. It has a very unique design and an interesting drawn photo of each player. Unlike the draftees of 2012, we will need to be patient in regards to this years rookies in there success within the NFL. The four auto cards we pulled were of Zac Dysert, Alec Ogletree, Deandre Hopkins, Andre Ellington. All cards were numbered to 99. This is the first time we’ve ever purchased a hobby product of Press Pass. Our past purchases of Press Pass normally are from a retail store. Will I buy this next year? No. Would I recommend this product? If you’re a auto collector, I would definitely recommend this product.

This years Elite has definitely stepped up as far as eye appeal goes. The “Portraits” are outstanding! I’ve seen Panini utilize a laser that makes the minute holes needed to create the “Portraits”. A note of cautious handling must be made as these cards could break over time due to the laser cut outs. I have had cards from last years Elite “Prime Numbers” tend to bend in that area and I have witnessed first hand what damage the laser does to the back of the card. It leaves burn marks! Great care is needed. As for the other inserts, “First & Goal”, “Passing the Torch”, and “Hardhats” I must admit my weakness lies with the “Hardhats” acetate cards. These cards are always a treat to collect. Finally, the base cards have been through a complete facelift and adds a touch of elegance to this years set. Forgive my comment here, in my humble opinion I still prefer last years base card foil design. Besides my one caveat, this years Elite does justice onto itself.

    To Ryan,

Mrs. Toshi just pointed out that my 2013 Panini Elite Adrian Peterson base card has no number in the back of the card. On your set checklist, it is noted as card #57. Is this just an isolated incident? Or is this a normal standard operating process in that the card is a insert that I’m not aware of? Your help is greatly appreciated! As always, Thank You In Advance!

    Toshi

Toshi ยป Looks like somehow the number was left off. Likely an uncorrected error as I see there are several others.

Yes, I agree! As long as Mrs. Toshi is happy, in turn I'm happy for her.

You have to try the; "I'm not looking for Pats cards effect"! If you're always looking for it, it never comes. It's when you least expect it, than you find what your looking for! LOL!

Yes, I think Panini finally mastered the laser technique. Last years '12 Elite insert called Numbers had the numbers punched out with a laser. The back of the cards tend to have burn marks. This year, they created a image of the player with hundreds of mini laser cut holes. And they mastered the technique!

If I come across any doubles of pats, you're the first to get them from me!

To all my fellow members!!!! Check this out!!!!!

I was browsing eBay yesterday and came across a bid that said; "Panini custom card stand up". After careful examination, this individual cut out Geno Smith from the 2013 Prestige hobby box, bent the bottom so the card could stand on it's own and had it for bid at $0.99 with a $2.50 S&H. At first I thought he was crazy. Then I felt that the person who would by it is a bigger fool than the individual who was selling it!

So in honor of the Geno Smith custom card stand up, I will give all members a 2013 Panini Elite "Custom Card E.J. Manuel 1/1 for trade or for sale. I will only except serious trade offers of Andrew Luck or RGIII auto relic combo cards. If you would like to purchase this custom 1/1, forum members get a $100.00 discount! The cost of the card is $1100.00 with FREE SHIPPING! With your CCW membership the final price is $1000.00.
