  • Help!! Is a "Hot Pack" for real?

Ever since I've started collecting, I've noticed sellers on eBay advertise "Hot Packs". These sellers claim that the pack you purchase is a "GUARANTEE" that it contains specific cards. The ones I'm looking at is a 2012 Topps Prime with a guarantee of a quad jersey or auto of Andrew Luck, RGIII, Ryan Tannehill, and Brandon Weedon. Other sellers are claiming that the pack contains specific players (Luck & RGIII) with an auto.

I would like some input in this matter.

Has anyone purchased these types of "Hot Pack"?

If you have, was it a item that was guaranteed to contain the players mentioned?

If it is true that it contains the advertised card, how in the world is this done?

How can the sellers advertise a product? If it is a false claim, they can get fined for false advertisement!

If they know what's in the pack, why don't they open it and pull the hit, and sell it on eBay? They sell a "Hot Pack" for $5.00 to $10.00. They would do better financially in opening the pack and selling the hit!

In closing, if anyone can assist me in answering my questions, it would be greatly appreciated! If the answers lean towards a 75% positive rating, I will purchase a "Hot Pack" and do a complete review here at CCW from bidding to ripping!

    Thank you in advance,

    Toshi

A hot pack is simply a pack that guarantees a random hit. Some packs of cards have nothing but base. The hot pack has a random hit in it. The deal is this. You buy a box that has three hits and a hot pack. The hot pack is a 4th chance at a big hit. Why sell them? Cuz there is one in every box so a lot of commons even of printing plates.

i would never buy a hot pack...here is my deal..i think it destroys hobby card purchasers..toshi believe it or not...you used to be able to...haven't tried this year but you used to be able to weigh the individual packs...there is a slight difference in weight with a pack with an auto or g/u or base....they even used to sell the secrets to finding the autos in hobby boxes on ebay...I feel like it destroys the guys who go in walmart or target and pick up a few packs and always get base....I even witnessed it at my local walmart the other year..he had his digi scale and was weighing all the packs in the store...talk about nerve..i even said something to a customer service rep...and the response was...as long as they aren't opening them..its fine...WOW!! ok that is my rant...lol

I did not know that people would go to this length just to find a "Hot Pack"! Thanks for the 411.

The hot packs that I've seen for sale on the bay only guarantee "a hit".

They'll toss those names out as "possible" contents, while the truth is that you'll most likely get a bum in your pack. I don't doubt that the big names come out of "some" of those packs, but it's not even close to the norm.

              I would never buy one.

Thank you for the information. It seems everyone agrees that the so called "Hot Packs" are a waste of time.

Don't risk it.. putting names like RGIII Luck Tannehill in title increase traffic to their specific auction. Not many people type "Hot Pack" in search but they do put the big player names.

I'm sure I don't have to remind you, but always read ALL of a persons' description.. They can say all they want in the title but for some reason if they say something like "I can't predict what's in the pack, it's just possible you will receive Luck, RGIII, Tannehill Auto" They are off the hook if you get a Chris Rainey Redemption...

Remember SanJoseFuji's post about not reading the description and ended up with empty boxes? It's all in the description..

I want to thank everyone who helped me in my decision NOT TO BUY a so called "Hot Pack"!!! Instead, I found Mrs. Toshi a 2012 Panini Certified Mirror Red Darren Sproles for $0.25 with a $1.00 S&H charge. And I will be heading out later today with Mrs. Toshi for some grocery shopping and a detour to "Collectors Palace" for a couple of packs! Lets not forget, Mrs. toshi is the true 1/1 "Hot Pack" finder in my home. I'll keep everyone up to date with whatever Mrs. Toshi rips open!

Thank you, to my fellow forum members!!!!
