  • I have a question on redemptions?

Can any member help Brett and I on this question regarding redemptions? Brett wanted to purchase a 2005 hobby box to see if he can pull a Aaron Rodgers rookie card. Now, I told him that he is better off in just going straight into eBay and purchasing a Rodgers rookie card. Although obtaining that card is his goal, he just wanted to experience what it is like to open a product that is 8 years old. Here is a quick note; that's the last time Brett collected cards, it wasn't until I picked up a pack here and a pack there in 2012 that he started his collection once again.

His greatest fear is this; what happens if he does pull a Aaron Rodgers rookie card and it's a redemption? Who can he speak to? Most companies are now part of either Topps or Panini. Since Topps and Panini really did not start the sports cards aquisitions until a couple of years ago, does this entail that he will have to put the redemption card in a magnetic case and display the redemption? Any help and advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.

I don't think that any company out there has been holding RC autos waiting for a redemption to be turned in. Most have an expiration date on the card.

I've heard that Panini & Upper Deck are honoring expired redemption pulls, but I wouldn't feel to good about an 8 year old one.

On a lighter note, I just looked through Beckett to see how many there are/were for Aaron Rodgers.

The first one I could find is listed in 2011 (Timeless Treasures). There are a total of 27 listed & they're all after that.

Hope this helps you decide what you want to do.

I collect Calvin, Barry, 1 auto each of rookie Lions that make the team & HOF auto & GU.

from what I've seen, Panini & UD will replace old redemptions but you most likely WON'T get what you pulled. You're screwed if you try to redeem Topps.

Looking for mainly Cowboys, Andy Dalton

Not as fun, but I agree with you're advice to Brett, Toshi. Plus those Hobby boxes are outrageously priced because of the chance of hitting the primo Draft Auto.. same with '98 and Peyton Manning, '07 and A.P., and most recent and for a long time to come '12 cuz of Luck, RGIII, Wilson... Plus I don't think Rodgers' cards are as prevalent in his RC boxes because he wasn't one of the big names in the draft. But don't quote me on that last sentence.

I can believe that!!! LOL! As for Panini & UD? At least they make an effort! I guess if Brett's redemption was a Aaron Rodgers rookie card and they replaced it with a Russell Wilson rookie card, he would be really happy. But I understand where you're coming with this in that it will be their choice of redemptions.

            Thank you,
            Toshi

No, I won't quote you on that! LOL! I noticed that issue as well. I was considering of purchasing a 2008 Bowman Chrome. I thought it would be cool to pull a rookie card of Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco. First off, they are hard to find and when they were available, the cost was very high! I could have purchsed a 2012 Panini Black and magnetic cases for for all the cards in my Black break for the price of the '08. And it would be cost effective for me to purchase the two single rookie cards of Ryan and Flacco from eBay! Thank you so much!
