One of the reasons that I've not been writing as many threads as I used to is due to my situation in health. I currently have been able to slowly get things back together again. During my time of convalescence, my trips to "Collectors Palace" our card shop in Streetsboro Ohio has ceased. Besides going to my doctor appointments and therapy, going out and getting a hobby box is not in my immediate plans for now. I always tell my children this simple fact, if you can throw money at a problem in your life, then it's a simple problem to correct. If you don't have your health? You have a real problem to deal with. As my children are young adults, they now realize how true my statements are. Now they can't say to their friends; "What a crazy old Japanese man I am"!

Not collecting cards and hearing my wife's excitement as she rips through packs with her OMG comments, has left this a quite home. This is possibly what I needed most. To try to relax and take care of my issues. During this period I was able to go back and look at what I've collected since my first set of cards in December of 2012. For the new members, I have only been collecting football cards since mid-December of 2012. Even more inusual? I'm 46 years old.

Each card I've collected has left an indelible mark in my life. From how I got this card or that, to what type of sentimental value it has in my life. That's the real beauty and one of the most important things we as a human race are able to connect to.

My collection started with Brett (My daughters boyfriend) giving me his doubles of his collection. Some of the first cards were of Quarterbacks. He had noticed how unique that I was so focused on cards of Quarterbacks. Of course I've branched out in my collection. The cards pictured below are of my very first cards collected. I do have four other cards that I purchased, but those cards were purchased in 2009. The four cards were of Brett Favre. Each card depicted Brett Favre in his uniform of the four teams that he played for Atlanta Falcons, Greenbay Packers, New York Jets, and Minnesota Vikings. It was not until Mid-December of 2012 that my collection was started in earnest. Pictured below is my very first set of cards.

Sentimental Values Part Two

With my first purchase of football cards, I had become enamored with intrigue. The first sets were of retail products in the mid-level end of football cards. Below are some of my mid-level purchases. From a certain point, my wife and I found out about high end cards. I've included photos below.

Yes, my wife has the Midas touch. When we started to collect cards, we did not care what we pulled. As a family, we purely was having fun. thats what counted the most. It was Brett (My daughters boyfriend) that pointed out; "How in the world were we able to pull cards of Andrew Luck, RGIII, Russell Wilson, and Alfred Morris"! He made us realize the difficulty in pulling the big names we had. Since the start of our new hobby, Mrs. Toshi picks all packs and or hobby boxes. We do have a 2012 Panini Totally Certified Phenom Red Auto RC Alfred Morris that's not pictured here. And as for our Russell Wilson, we are waiting for a redemption of the Wilson card. It's going to be a 2013 Panini Totally Certified Phenom Red Materials Auto RC Russell Wilson. This year, we are going to continue purchasing hobby boxes from 2012, I'm sure I don't have to go into detail of why. We will purchase a few 2013 hobby boxes to see the new designs. One card that I'm particularly happy to pull is a card that was either in a retail product of 2013 Score and 2013 Bowman. We were unable to pull the coveted card. Then when we heard that this card was to be in a hobby product of 2013 Panini Prestige, we both decided that we would not chase after this card as we had way too many 2013 Score and Bowman. So it was a huge surprise when we finally pulled the missing card which was a 2013 Panini Prestige Auto Leon Sandcastle 12/21! Our potential goal this year is either a Superfractor, 1/1, or a printing plate.

I have only pulled two printing plates ever, and oddly enough I did it in the same week from Topps baseball. I pulled a Ryan Zimmerman and Rickie Weeks printing plates out or two different boxes so that kind of took care of the 1/1 and the printing plate at the same time. I am currently awaiting a Tim Tebow Certified Gold Auto /10 to show up in the mail. Its been months since I redeemed it. That Leon Sandcastle card is one that I would love to pull, I think it is just a creative concept and the whole thing was hilarious. I agree with buying 2012 product as well because there are so many possibilities of high to mid end players that are available.

That is one thing I have not pulled yet, but someday hope to get. Very nice card. I will tell you who has ridiculous luck as well is my 8 year who I introduced to collecting about 4 years ago. I will post a couple of his pulls for you.

That 2012 Bowman Sterling is one of the best products out there. The only thing holding me back from purchasing a hobby box of Bowman Sterling is the cost! Great 1/1.

Your 8yr. old son has the "Midas Touch". It's great to read stories of how members of CCW are able to share the collecting experience with their children. That is so cool, I had to look at it for awhile. I could not figure out why the black looking sticker was featured on your Harper 1/1. Unfortunately since my accident, I am unable to process and figure things out which also affects my short term memory. I waited for my son to visit me, he immediately told me its Harpers "Black outs" utilized by athletes to cut and or minimize sun glare. This is the first card I've ever seen with such a unique relic. Thank you so much for sharing that card with everyone!
