  • My mailday trade from azdbacks1998

Azdbacks1998's generosity truly went way beyond what cards were to be traded for. My only and extremely important goal in this trade were for three 2012 Platinum cards. I purchased a near complete set at a really great discount. You see, several weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to acquire complete sets from 2012 of course at the best possible price point in my favor. This is one small aspect in our hobby that makes collecting that much more exciting. To own a card that has a book value of $120.00 only to have paid $50.00 for it. It is a cardinal rule in investment. "Buy low, sell high"! Now, please understand, I collect to collect. But collectors need to be well aware of how much you spend and what your collection is worth. This information is mundane at best for the current owner and collector, it's information that the next generation can wisely utilize. God forbid, but we all must die at some point, what you don't want to happen is your for your heirs to carry your entire collection to a dealer only to receive $500.00 for a collection that exceeds $5,000.00.

With sharing that thought, I excitedly entered my three ever so precious (I sound like Bilbo Bagins from "Lord of The Rings") 2012 Platinum cards into my now complete set. There were other cards that azdbacks1998 included as well. These cards were from products that I have not purchased, it was very refreshing to see these new examples from 2013. Upon many more cards that were in this trade, one stood out more than any card.

I am a Brett Favre fan. I've had the chance to look into a set dedicated to Favre called "Flight to 420". Now to own a complete set will set you back at or around $1000.00 for the Chrome version. What's interesting to note is that these cards that celebrate one of Favre's many historical achievements are plain and simple. I have yet to own one card until today. I am honored and most humbled that azdbacks1998 had included a card from this set. Please review the cards below!

    Toshi

I wanted to add that although I have no idea of whom Tyler Wilson is, the 2013 Panini Elite Prime 2 Color card was a joy to hold. I'm a big fan of heavy card stock. With the minamilist design and the black gray color configuration, the card truly stood out. I'm from the old school "Less is more".

The 2013 Panini Prizm from azdbacks1998 has one of the most unusual non die cut look I've ever seen. If you look carefully, the card resembles sports cards produced in the vintage years. It seems to be a mis cut. The graphics only accentuates this mis cut look. Very ingenious!

Topps continues to surpass it's design on products. I clearly recall (With my post concussion syndrome, I'm surprised that I recall last years design. Mrs. Toshi says I'm full of s#%* and I choose only to remember football cards and not remember the chores she tells me to complete!) last years Andrew Luck and RGIII Topps Mega Holiday Cards! Just to utilize a comparison to last years design is unfair. That's how beautiful this card shines!

One more thing! The other notable card from 2013 is the 2013 Panini Rookies and Stars product. It's the insert named "Crusade". At first, it's very loud colors and spiral like flame graphics were somewhat strange to me. (My injury also affects my field of vision. My first 2013 Topps Chrome "Blue Wave" Troy Polamalu card made me very dizzy). As I dissected the design, I've noticed that the graphics were from products from the past. What are card to behold!

I wanted to add a very important facet in our hobby of collecting football cards.

In my humble opinion, there are three important rules to follow, ORANIZATION, ORGANIZATION, and most importantly ORGANIZATION!

Me, myself, and I might know or assume (Assumption is the "Mother of all f#%* ups") where a particular card is only to find that it's not there. This very tedious part of collecting tends to be neglected and is something of a nuisance with some collectors of sports cards. Please note that organizational skills are essential to any hobby.

I guess what I'm trying to convey here is once you've gone up to meet your maker, to have a physical hard copy file as well as a file in the cloud only helps an heir of your collection understand what value is put into a set! This fact provides information even to the very much alive collector. It's when you have all the information regarding a card, the sell/trade value is exemplified. In certain circumstances, allowing minimal information to be shared is a very good thing. In the case of sports cards, an overabundance of information is the goal!
