  • Johnny Unitas add

Well, years back my uncle had gotten a auto'd picture from Johnny featuring his restaurant he owned. Needless to say he gave it to me years ago when he heard I had been collecting football cards/mem. It was a christmas gift years back and I was super stoked. Well after moving into our new home last month I finally got around to un-packing the stuff from my collections, I found the picture. I want to get a shadow box to put into instead of a photoframe.

Well I had a buddy call me earlier today and said "hey man I got something you may want to see, maybe even want to own". So I told him to come over and lets see what he is talking about. He pulls out this card a 1961 Topps Make-A-Photo scratchback #1 Johnny Unitas card in great shape. So he gave me the history on it, I told him I was interested in it. He tells me "Merry Christmas buddy, enjoy it cause it would just sit and I could only see giving to you man". Makes me really happy to know that a good friend thought of me that much to give me this card that has been in his family for almost 53 years and now its mine.

Its in great shape, the bottom left corner has a slight bend but other then that its in great shape. The white dots you see are from the loader not the card itself.

That's why I love collecting in this hobby. The stories, history, family, and knowledge that all comes together is just fantastic. In a way, the memories of your grandfather handing the Unitas picture to you are absolutely priceless. Now you can add a memory of your best friend handing you a Christmas gift.
I am easy, I collect any and all NFL cards. Individual players I really enjoy are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Russell Wilson. My passion is Favre rookie cards and vintage cards.

Thanks guys, yeah I was in shock when I asked him if it was for sale and he said "merry christmas". The kids seen it and absolutely had a cow saying "omg a 50yr old Johnny unitas card, wow thats soooo cool".

So I have a question now, do you guys think I should send it to BGS to get graded and slabbed? With only a minor creased edge that is only on the front, not the back it didnt bend all the way. Think it would be worth it and about how much do you think it may cost me to have done? It would be my 1st sent out to be graded, I know that it can be pricey to have this done. But something like this I personally think should be done to preserve it as best as possible.
