Throughout my travels, out of curiosity, people always ask me where my favorite place was. My answer is always; "Every place I visited or lived at were my favorite places. Every place had it's beauty and it's beast". From my birthplace of Honolulu, Hawaii and it's beaches, Tokyo, Japan the home of my ancestry, and the many beautiful cities in Europe with structures that were built before the time of Christ. I have enjoyed these destinations, but most importantly were the people that made these countries special. There are times that I close my eyes and see the myriad of faces that have touched my life. Interestingly, we tend to forget the United States of America. The birth place of a nation built by the many different cultures. I tell my very adult children; "Our system is not perfect and has many flaws. But it is the best one out there that I've experienced through my travels". My time in California was most memorable. That's where I truly found out the difference between musician and artist. San Francisco has to be one of the most diverse and interestingly cities that we as Americans can be proud of.

I literally had to learn a whole different culture and language. Living here in Ohio, learning another language is not a nessecity, but in California, learning Spanish is an asset. Of course like all languages, the first words I learned were cuss words and words of a sexual nature. I was a hit there, think about it. A Japanese punk from Hawaii talking BS in Spanish. The language and culture truly grew with me.

I've been working on a difficult project since my 2012 Topps Chrome "Master Set" has been completed. It took me a few weeks just to find and execute my new project. My criteria was that it had to be within my budget, able to complete the project without too many difficulties, a subject that I had a passion for, a set that I could purchase with minimal finance yet be able to turn this into a profit, and most importantly something that other collectors can appreciate. I am still awaiting for my last three cards to complete my set. Once they arrive, I will proudly display this very exciting set. One of my bids consisted of a lot of cards. Since it was cheaper to purchase this lot as opposed to a single of which I needed, I moved forward and pulled the trigger. This particular lot is interestingly from another country, Mexico. I found it odd that American football cards made it to our southern neighboring brothers. Hence my experience shared above in the first two paragraphs.

By showcasing this lot, I'm sure there are a number of long time collectors that will make the connection of what my soon to be surprise will be. But that's ok. This is one facet of our hobby that makes it so fun!

The first card is a 1960 card that cost $0.05. I just thought that it would be interesting to own something fifty three years old. Please view the rest of the cards depicted. Thank you forum members for reading my threads and for your inquiries.

    Have a Happy New Year,

    Toshi

One of my favorite cards is my Irvin Pro Set Spanish card. I also have a Griffey baseball card in Spanish, Wayne Gretzky card in French and Newsport jumbo Irvin card in French. All of them I don't think I could part with. Good luck on your set... and keep posting those pics!

I had no idea about such cards, and as you mentioned one in French. I must add here, the country that I so hated, was Paris, France! For some reason, they really hate Americans. My entire band were treated like animals, actually they treated their animals better than us. Due to the occupation of French Indo-China (Vietnam) they thought I was Vietnamese and was spoken to as such. The only nice guy I met was a Vietnamese shop owner that would try and help me. We were invited to play a concert for their Biccentenial of Bastille Day. Someone put their dog on our stage and the dog took a crap right in front of us. I stopped the band, packed up, demanded full payment from the concert promoter in American Dollars, and left the country that night. I wanted to stay and here Luciano Pavaratti sing as he was the main attraction, but I was so angry, we left!

What gets me is, what do the French want? In reality, they have no choice! Do they want their government to be a Third Reich run by Adolf Hitler? Or are they happy that the Americans with the coalition forces freed them from the Nazis during WWII? So many Americans fought for them, and they still hate us. I don't understand this at all. Because one of my distant cousins was a Japanese American during WWII, he and his family were transferred out of their homes to camps. My dad lived close to Pearl Harbor, they had to be relocated in fear that my dad and his family would be spies or saboteurs. When the call went out to my family to fight in WWII, I was told that everyone of age signed up. Because they were Japanese, they were not allowed to fight in the Pacific theater. The military felt that Japanese Americans would not shoot their own. My dad said that was BS. He told me; "What about the German Americans, they wouldn't shoot their own"?

So a division was created just for the Japanese Americans called the 442nd. I recommend forum members interested in history to wiki that. Till this day, they suffered the most casualties and are the most decorated unit in the military to present. This fact that I'm about to share was a huge shock to me. Since that time, when Americans enlist in the military, they are told of the bravery of the 442nd. Every person I speak to that served knows of the 442nd. Every American had lost a member of their family in Europe, the French have no right to hate the Americans. This is just my humble opinion.

On a good note, that is one of the most beautiful cities I've seen. I remember sitting under the Arc de Triomph, Eifel Tower, and most notably walking by the original Louis Vouiton factory. I must admit, I had the best bread there! Their beer sucks, their wine is heaven. The French do not deserve such a city.
