    To my fellow forum members,

I want to thank everyone for allowing me to take part and be a contributor to CCW. Through the last nine months I've had the privilege and education that no money can buy. So much to learn, so much information to digest! Although I am not a "Rookie" member, I still feel as if I am one of such. Compared to the many members of this forum, the one thing I lack is experience. Of coarse as time moves forward, I too will continue to gain the experience, knowledge, and acumen in my passion at collecting football cards.

Reading as many threads as possible, I get view each individual's unique and personal collection. From cards that span the vintage era all the way to our present, I live and breath over these mini time machines. What's the most intriguing fact is that by viewing other members collection, I realized that my enjoyment in this hobby favors vintage cards. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of modern cards. The differentiation of these cards, besides the year in which it was produced are like night and day. While modern cards have a auto, patch, or jersey of the player depicted, the vintage cards are lacking this aspect. So why am I a fan of vintage cards? If you ask Mrs. Toshi, she'll tell you that like attracts like. In her words; "Old foolish Japanese man with old football cards".

The older cards in general will have issues that ranges as far as but not excluding centering, creases, tears, bent corners, and everything else that you can think of. As I've mentioned time and time again, no one is wrong when it comes to your personal football card collection! In my humble opinion, I relish the fact that I can own a card that's one hundred years old with issues described in this paragraph. It adds a mystique and uniqueness of qualities that modern cards lack. Vintage cards tend to take up a personality all on their own.

Recently, Brett and I visited different card shops from Cleveland Ohio proper to as far as Akron Ohio. We both found a shop "Krych's Cards" that caters to our needs. He has thousands of vintage and modern cards displayed. I went ahead and purchased a few items from Krych's. Here are my recent acquisitions.

(1999 Pacific Crown Royale Priest Holmes)

Purchased two packs of 2013 Contenders. I was curios to see this product in hand. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with these cards and felt that I could have utilized my money in a vintage single.

that Priest Holmes is sweet! Are you going to be buying any black this year? Looks like they've upgraded some of the chipping problems from last year but they're way expensive.

Collectors clamor over Contenders year in and year out. Next to Topps Chrome, Contenders seem to be the next popular set of cards. At least I don't feel like that I am the only collector that dislikes Contenders. Ugly, is an understatement! My caveat with Contenders and Prizm is that these items only exclusively have autos. If I'm going to have to buy a hobby box in upwards of $100.00, it needs to also have jerseys and or jersey/auto/die cut. A variation of hits is what I enjoy collecting. "Variety is the spice of life"! If your a auto only collector, than Contenders and Prizm are made for collectors in that niche.

Yes, as you are well aware, for some strange reason, I gravitate towards the Crown Royale products. I can only explain my affinity to Crown Royale in a sense that it's a drug and I'm addicted to it. To actually find and own the actual original Pacific Crown Royale was my excitement of the day!

In reference to your question in regards to 2013 Black I can only say that I've open 2013 hobby boxes of Prestige, Elite, and Momentum. My mantra; "I collect to collect" has not changed for me. Yet, it is extra icing on the cake to pull a card and find it's value far way exceeds the cost of the hobby box, with the foreknowledge of your card will not only rise in value but commands a price that actually exceeds book value and to have your peers pay a premium for such a card.

Unfortunately, expensing 2013 hobby boxes, one only needs to look at this months Beckett as well as eBay or any secondary market. The majority of the cards pulled does not justify the cost of the hobby box. So going back to your question of 2013 Panini Black, I'm going to stay far away from 2013 products including Black like it's a new strain of bubonic plague! So far, the asking price for 2013 Black is upwards of $160.00 plus.

My method of choice is this simple theory, do I buy a 2013 Black for $160.00, or look into hobby boxes from years past? Also keeping in mind spending $160.00 for possibly an iconic product like a 1984 Topps Complete Set and still have enough money to pick up several high end singles of gridiron legends. My choice would be the latter.
