To my fellow forum members,
I won't go into my usual diatribe. This will be a straight forward personally humble opinion of a review as well as my come to be expected visual "Showcase"!
Upon purchasing the 2014 Topps Prime via Walmart, I hesitated in purchasing not one but to Blaster Boxes. Why was this? In 2012, I bought my very first Prime product of a retail Prime Blaster. To my chagrin, I felt that I've been cheated out when I realized the nature of the beast. These retail cards were much thinner in stock as opposed to the hobby rendition.
I eventually narrowed it down to three products that seemed to cheat out and be cheap as well for collectors far and wide. 2012 Prime, Strata, and Crown Royale, the later being comprised of a totally different product. If it were not for my hit of a base RGIII Prime, at least I considered it a hit due to the fact that it held a high premium as well as my Turbin auto from Strata, I would have been absolutely livid. The only great thing about 2012 Crown would be that after 2 Blaster Boxes, I actually hit a RGIII jersey card. In this fact and this fact alone, the hit was due to Mrs. Toshi choosing the 2nd. 2012 Panini Crown Royale, hence the RGIII hit. BV $40.00.
Now that I've made members of CCW aware of my consternation of 2014 Prime, here is my overview.
A Pre-Logue:
I decided to purchase 2 Blasters Boxes of 2014 Topps Prime as I was the sole hobbiest shopping at Walmart by myself. Something that has taken me almost three weeks to accomplish after my incident. Mrs. Toshi was racking up an eleven day work week, hence her not being able to take me. Ergo, my solo shopping spree. Upon opening the 1st Blaster Box I noticed a Box Topper. Then the usual 6 packs plus 1 extra bonus pack as advertised. My intuition told me that these packs must be a fifteen card pack as it was so thick. After carefully opening my first pack, lo and behold, these were thick, approximately 75pt. Stock Cards. Wow! For the very first time in my collecting of football cards I've come across a Prime retail that was produced with hobby card stock. I won't ask why. I just fell head over heels and enjoyed the rest of my very surprisingly positively motivating break!
The break:
As always the nature of my collecting habits, I'm a huge stickler for well produced card stock. My second plus to these cards were the very well known Prime derivative of it being a "Full color bleed" product. All cards were done with quality in mind, so much so that I just texted Brett with my break and to inform him of my choices in this years 2014 product purchases. One of which just might be a 2014 Topps Prime Hobby Box. Per a box break, there was a total of sixteen rookie cards including the Box Topper, six inserts, and one hit.
For a Walmart Blaster Box, this was a magnificent break overall, it was well balanced with a little bit of a variety with the rest of the break comprising of base veteran cards. My moto; "I will only purchase hobby boxes of products that I love with the best quality base cards. This is due to the fact that 85% of your break, whether hobby or retail will comprise of base cards, unless your purchasing a high end item, high ticket product. Will I purchase more of this item? A resounding yes! I actually will be going with Mrs. Toshi to Target and to see if they not only have 2014 Topps Prime but a Target hit centric exclusive. One can only dream and hope for one.
In conclusion, I have only opened one of two 2014 Walmart Prime Blaster Boxes. The other Blaster break will be done by Mrs. Toshi, and so will the Target Blaster if there is so such of one. Enjoy my visual break of box number one. Walmart Box number two and the Target Blaster will follow sometime tomorrow, time and health permitting. Please review and discuss with me on the break as well as any thoughts and or questions regarding this "Football Showcase". Thank you for the read and in advance, thank you for the reply!
