  • "Old School"

    To my fellow forum members,

I have been entering photos and information by cataloging each card via SCA (Sports Card Album) the link is below. I prefer using SCA as oppose to Photobucket as SCA is specifically and especially made for sports cards and sports cards exclusively. I think it's a novel idea, some people utilize SCA for trade or selling. My cards are on SCA for a visual personal catalog, and of course for the occasional trade here on CCW. I am in no means trying to advertise for SCA on CCW, I'm just stating how I like the outcome of my personal collection.

With this statement being made, I recently have been tediously inputting complete sets that I own. They are not of any significant rare value like a 1948 Leaf Complete Set or the now infamous 1965 Topps "Tall Boy" in which the Joe Namath Rookie Card has a Beckett Book Value of $1,800.00 in perfect mint condition. I've seen that card incased in a Beckett slab at a number 5 rating going well over for $2,000.00. No, my fellow forum members, I'm no where in that league for now.

What I do have are complete sets of my all time favorite idol Brett Favre. I have completed inputting the 1991 Upper Deck 700 card set, (From what my knowledge tells me, this is Upper Decks first large set ever) in which there are actually three Brett Favre Rookie cards in that set. #13, #627, and #647. The other set is the 1991 Topps Stadium Club card set. This is his most famous rookie card, it shows Brett Favre in a full bleed running pose in his Atlanta Falcon uniform. When any collector speaks of a specific rookie card, a typical one known by collectors will come to mind. A good example is the Elway/Marino rookie card. Immediately, one visualizes and pictures the now famous 1984 Topps set. The offset graphics of this card is indelible in collectors minds.

I am curently working on my 1992 Topps Stadium Club Set. This set consists of Series 1 with 300 cards, Series 2 with 300 cards, and the now famous and hard to find High Series at 100 cards respectively. This totals out to 700 cards, boy, do I have my work cut out for me. So far the High Series is complete. I recently started on Series 1. The reseaon for "Showcasing" such a set that is 34 years old is the fact that there are several well known "Hall of Famers" depicted in these sets. There are also non HOF players that should be noted as well. I thought these old school players should get their due respect. Here is what I've found so far.

A quick note, I had to add Jim Harbaugh in there. He at the very least was successful in taking the 49'ers as Coach Harbaugh to the Super Bowl.

As for Clay Matthews, he had a storied career here in Cleveland, Ohio as a member of the Browns. You now can find Brand new cars that are purchased at his Ford/Chevy Franchises. But the main fact is that his son, Clay Matthews is one of the best athletes on the Green Bay Packers team.

As I go through my Series 1, 2, and High Series, I'll depict the famous notable and HOF players on this thread called "Old School"!

Here are some other notable athletes

These cards are from card #250 to #275 1992 Topps Stadium Club Series 1.

I had to add Spielman as he and his wife fought the good fight against cancer until she passed away in 2009. His brother Rick is the GM for the Vikings.

Emmitt Smith, need I say more!

I've included Matt Stover as he was the oldest NFL player to win several SB. He retired in 2011 as a Raven at the ripe old age of 45.

Perhaps it's just me trying to push back against how things have changed but I really like the design of these Stadium Club cards and many cards from this time frame. The action photography is much more interesting than we typically see now. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I agree. The "Full Bleed" design is something that we lack with modern graphics. This is one of my reasons in purchasing older sets of cards. Most of Series 1 and Series 2 have no real value as a set nor individually. It's the High Series which is card #683 that is the one key card in this 700 card set. It's Favres first Green Bay Packers card. They did not print the High Series set in large numbers, hence only the last hundred cards are what is sought after. I've only seen an unopened box of 1992 Topps Stadium Club High Series from Steel City Cards being sold on eBay for approximately $500.00. Thank you for the read and reply!
