  • Cliff Lee Signs With Philadelphia Phillies

Cliff Lee signed with the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. Contract terms are not yet disclosed. All I can say is WOW!!! The Phillies came out of nowhere when everyone thought it was a two team race between the Yankees and Rangers. The Phillies now have one of the best 5 man starting rotations in the history of baseball: Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt, Cole Hamels, and Joe Blanton.

Holy crap! I can't say I blame them, though. Their window of opportunity to win another World Series is shrinking, so it's a smart move to go for it now while you have the best chance. Great move for them.

It came out of nowhere. I didnt think any other team was even in the mix. But a great move for the Phillies and all the fans can forgive them for trading Lee away last season.

Sickest rotation I've ever seen in my life. If they don't win 5 straight titles, I'll be shocked.

Pat Gillick is a smart man (I know that as fact from his lengthy stay here in Toronto), and he realizes that they have a legitamate shot at winning now, and when you have a team in that position, you have to go for it, and they are going for it. I am still bitter that Toronto management said they had to move Halladay (not at him), but nothing would make me happier to see Doc win a World Series. He's a class act. I think they have a good shot this year. We'll see.

Phillies were smart letting Jayson Werth go and using that money for Lee. Reports say that the Phillies' offer was less than both the Yankees and Rangers. It is being reported at 5 years at $100 million, with a 6th year for an additional $20 million.

I believe Cliff Lee is the first superstar to spurn the Yankees. He didnt care about money.

Proof that if the Dolans weren't the biggest cheapskates in the world that we could've kept him all along.

Lee, Phils finalize $120M, 5-year deal (AP)

Cliff Lee and the Phillies have finalized a $120 million, five-year contract that brings the star pitcher back to Philadelphia. Lee spurned more lucrative offers from the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers to return to the Phillies, who traded him away a year ago after he helped them reach the 2009 World Series.

Wow, he is getting $24 million a season now. Thats more than Halladay. Funny how it went up $20 million from when it was originally posted 2 nights ago.
