To answer your "?" about "Why is baseball......" watch "Field of Dreams". Towards the end of the film, out on the field, the character HORACE MANN (played by James Earl Jones) gives a really GREAT statement about the importance of baseball. In general, according to him, there is nothing in our culture as important than baseball and how it affects us.
