Sadly, Penny will be the 3rd. No way Piniero will be resigned now.

I don't know about that 7.5 million in this economy for a 4th starter.

The Dodgers got Padilla last year for less than a million for the last half of the season. Your 3rd starter should be making like 6-8 mil.

To look at what just the Dodgers paid Padilla isn't really correct. Padilla made $12 million last year in the last year of 3 year/$33.75million deal. It's just that Texas was on the hook for most of that money. Starters are expensive and they're most expensive when you only give them a one year deal. You're right about the economy, though. We'll have to see how it affects contracts this season. Then we'll have a good perspective on what Penny's market value really was. The economy was bad last year too and some pretty insane contracts went out to pitchers.

Lohse is equal to Penny so technically it doesn't matter where you slot them.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Obviously Lohse has the better durability and Penny has the better "stuff" so it's a tossup. We'll see what LaRussa does.

              3.5 starters for both?

unfortunantly, as Josh said they won't be signing Piniero so they will need another guy

                Imagine this starting rotation.

                1. Chris Carpenter
                2. Adam Wainwright
                3. Kyle Loshe
                4. Brad Penny
                5. ???/Joel Piniero

                Pretty darn good imo

just my opinion but the only solid person in that rotation is...no one

Wainwright had one great season, rest has been average..

Carpenter cant stay healthy at all

                  Loshe/Penny/Pinero, well....uhmmm.......

                  Again just my opinion

Carpenter should have won the cy young...either him or Wano...

Let's see how "average" Wainwright is this year...

                    Name a 3-4-5 that's better please

                              Thats irrelevant for the Phillies,

                              in 2009

                              JA Happ- $405,000
                              Pedro Martinez- $1,000,000
                              Joe Blanton- $5,475,000

So they made a combined $6,880,000...
