    Ryan Howard Torn Achilles

    As suspected



    Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard(notes) might miss the start of spring training and possibly part of the regular season after tearing an Achilles tendon.

    Terrible way to end his season. Even worse was fans were boo'ing him as he was getting helped off the field.

      you know once you get paid you better perform. The way he performed he deserved to be booed he just happened to get injured but was gonna get booed regardless

          You think the Phillies with have Mayberry start at first? I know they have a double A guy from NY who is pretty good, but I am not sure he is ready to start next year. Maybe they pick up a veteran to fill for a while?

            I'd guess either Mayberry or they'll have another outfielder play some 1st base while Howard is out. Don't think they sign anyone since Howard is suppose to be (as of right now) ready to return sometime next season

              your'e poroblaly thinking of jon singleton, he was traded to Houston in the Pence deal

                You're right it was Singleton. I guess they didn't figure they needed a power 1B with Howard signed long term. Time will tell.

                  Horrible news, especially since it came at the end of their season. I wonder how much this is going to affect him next season since he will be out at the beginning.

                    As a Phillie fan, the only thing I can say is that maybe they can get a guy more like James Loney who hits for average and makes contact to fill in and see if that can spice up the lack of hitting.
