  • Royals trade Melky Cabrera to Giants for Jonathan Sanchez

    Royals Acquire Jonathan Sanchez For Melky Cabrera: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

    The Royals acquired lefty Jonathan Sanchez and minor league starter Ryan Verdugo from the Giants for outfielder Melky Cabrera, announced the team.

    Sanchez, 28, may have been a non-tender candidate for the Giants after a disappointing 2011 season that saw him walk 5.9 per nine innings and miss significant time with biceps tendinitis and a sprained ankle. The southpaw is tough to hit and has big-time strikeout numbers, but control has always been a problem. He projects to earn $5.2MM in 2012, after which he'll be eligible for free agency. That he was traded for one year of Cabrera shows how much his trade value slipped during the '11 season. Sanchez was set to battle Barry Zito for the Giants' fifth starter job next year.

    Good trade for both sides, Sanchez is an upgrade for KC and they traded Melky at a high value.

    So basically the Giants 5th/spot starter becomes the Royals 'ace'...and they gave up one of their most productive players for him.

    ROYALS = WORLD SERIES

      This basically means that Carlos Beltran is as good as gone.

        They got him to face all those left handed hitters in Cleveland

        Seriously though, they traded Melky after a really good season that came out of no where and they have the prospects to replace Melky.

          It's a win/win. Cabrera's (sadly) instantly a top-3 hitter in that SF lineup. And even thought Sanchez isn't that good, he's better than what KC has.

          If you think I'm worried about the Indians facing him though....LOLOLOLOL

            You are correct, both guys are clear upgrades to help the teams, which is rather sad.

            That part was a joke though..I figured you knew what I was talking about there.

              I'm not sold on Melky and especially since he's going to be on the Giants, he'll probably suck like every other hitter they get. (outside of Buster Posey and Sandoval)

                No I gotcha. All this means is Sanchez has more opportunities to break Choo's thumb again.

                  KC has is starting to get some decent players. Especially Hosmer, and Sanchez is a good addition to ther team.
