Great article... he did another great interview a few months back for The Sporting News. It actually changed the way I felt about him.

Keep Pete Rose out of baseball forever. He doesn't deserve to be in the game. He knowingly broke the RULES, and then he LIED about what he'd done for years on end. He should NEVER be allowed back in baseball, or the HOF. If anyone, who has been suspended forever from baseball and the HOF, should be allowed to be reinstated (and put in the HOF) it's "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. It was never proven that he violated the rules of baseball (like it was proven on Rose). Just my personal opinion, and I know numerous Rose fans disagree, but KEEP Rose out of baseball and the HOF.

The main items Im looking to trade for are

Very interesting read. Rose definately deserves his plaque in Cooperstown. I also dont believe that banned from baseball means a player should be banned from the Hall of Fame as well.

What Pete Rose did was wrong. Taking over a decade to admit it was wrong also. But if you know anything at all about addiction, denial is a step that can and often does take many years to overcome.

At any rate, baseball is full of cheaters. Corking bats and scuffing balls are against the rules also. They are somehow considered lesser rules then the gambling one though.

Pete has, after years of denial come clean. He has said he was sorry and has served a lengthy suspension. I believe it is time for his ban to be lifted and he should take his place among baseballs imortals.

On another note. While I believe Joe Jackson should also be in the Hall of Fame, he signed a confession. Even though he had a very solid World series. That baffles me.
I collect a little bit of everything. But, if I never get back to you, your probably on Ignore!!

Now I dont agree with what he did when he was a manager and the whole gambling thing, but you cant deny what he did on the field as a player.

No fan can be wrong in their opinion on this. Some fans like him and some fans dont. The way I see it is in all sports, players are judged by what they do on the field/court and what they do outside their sport. Even though a lot of athletes do stupid questionable things outside of work that gets them in trouble, you have to appreciate what they did when it came to playing the game on the field/court.

Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson sadly will never make it in the hall of fame... and their accomplishments are their own... they didnt cheat

yet players like Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, Petite, A-Rod, etc etc etc will eventually get in the hall of fame and in my mind ALL of their stats and accomplishments are tainted and manufactured

seems really fair doesnt it ?

The ones I feel bad for are the ones who will not make it b/c their peers did steroids and people aren't sure whether they did or not. My guess is that someone like Jeff Bagwell probably did, but it is just based on the fact that he got real big in a short amount of time. He could have done it naturally, but you never know.

Fortunately, I don't think Jim Thome will fall into that category. I think he will make it based on his performance.

If guys like Rose,Clemens,Bonds, etc get in the HOF it should be the HOF of Cheats,Crooks, and Liars of MLB. None of them deserve to be in any other baseball HOF.

I think sometimes we confuse what the hall of fame was started for. The Hall of Fame was formed to recognize the accomplishments of a player on the field of play. It is not the hall of good guys. Let me clarify:

Babe Ruth was a womaniser (this was frowned apon 90 years ago), Ty Cobb was openly a racist as were countless other members of the hall of fame. One could easily research more and find character flaws for many of the hall of famers. Roberto Alomar spit in an umpires face.

I believe for this reason guys like Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe should be in. Guys that are proved to have used steroids should be left off the ballot completely because their transgressions affected baseball in two ways.

                        1. It helped them produce numbers that made them better players then they would have been naturally. Except Bonds, he had the numbers already so he was just stupid.

                        2. It made the numbers of other players seem non-HOF worthy (Murphy, Raines, Biggio, Mussina, Berkman, etc... It has even made us question every player that has put up HOF numbers.

These are just my thoughts and are not directed at anybody.

I agree with most of what Dave posted, just not the part about Rose getting in the "HALL". To me, "NO ONE" who violates, and in ROSE's case knowingly violated, the rules of baseball. Then after he was caught on the violation he LIED for about two decades (approximately 20 years). So far as Ruth, Cobb, etc they didn't violate the rules of the game. Roberto was fined & suspended for a while for his inappropriate action, he paid for his action (though I didn;t think it was near enough). I'll stop here, this is a topic that al of us could debate until we all die.

                            Have a good evening.

Wow... I really like (& agree) with your response.

I think 10 years ago... I would have disagreed with you (mainly because I sort of felt that people in the HOF, should be both... good players and good people).

But as you stated... the facts are... Ruth, Cobb, and a bunch of other people who aren't necessarily good "role models" have been elected to the hall, based on their play on the diamond.

I also agree with your stance on the whole "steroid" issue.
