  • Padres Trade Anthony Rizzo to the Cubs

Cubs Acquire Anthony Rizzo: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

The Cubs have acquired first baseman Anthony Rizzo and right-hander Zach Cates from the Padres for right-hander Andrew Cashner and outfielder Kyung-Min Na, the teams announced. The move provides the Cubs with a potential long-term first baseman and makes room for another first baseman in San Diego.

Like this deal MUCH more for the Cubs.

Not the First baseman i was wanting to hear about. This guy only batted .141 in 49 games last year and had one homerun. I hope this is not thier future. I see he was drafted by the Red Sox so that shows you the connection to the front office. Wheres Prince?????

Rizzo was a hot player when he played for the Tucson Padres the last couple seasons.....his debut was probably just nerves......you know how it takes some players a lil bit to warm up to the big leagues when they're first drafted. I watched him play a few games here in town after the Dbacks AAA went to Reno, and he was hittin dingers left and right. (my son has one of his HR balls!! )

Good for the Cubbies, he should blossom soon!

Epstein Gets Anthony Rizzo From The Padres

Old pals agree to trade Rizzo from Padres to Cubs - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

If we have this quite straight on the Anthony Rizzo journey:

Theo Epstein drafted him once, traded him once and traded for him once.

Jed Hoyer drafted him once, and traded for him twice.

Josh Byrnes watched him hit .141 and traded for Yonder Alonso.

This, of course, all goes back to the Boston Red Sox, where Byrnes and Hoyer worked under Epstein, the general manager, and where the Red Sox drafted Rizzo, the very talented slugging first baseman, out of high school in the sixth round of the 2007 draft.

Byrnes was GM of the Arizona Diamondbacks by then, but knew the culture, knew Epstein, and presumably knew how Epstein (and Hoyer, whom he later worked under with the San Diego Padres) felt about Rizzo.

So, as Byrnes replaced Hoyer and set out to recast the foundation of the last-place Padres, he had this very marketable piece in the left handed-hitting Rizzo, especially so in Chicago, where Epstein and Hoyer had reunited.

On Friday, they completed a deal that sent Rizzo and minor league right-hander Zach Cates to the Cubs for right-hander Andrew Cashner and minor league outfielder Kyung-Min Na.

Yeah me too. I bet Prince ends up with either the Nationals or the Marlins.

if the cubs dont still go after Prince, theyre idiots, they have no serious legit power threat in that lineup, especially if Soriano's over-the-hill ass is the next one out the door in Chicago, who's left in that lineup other than Soto who can hit for anything even closely resembling legit power?theyre also going to regret giving up on Cashner in my eyes,in the same manner they did when they sent Nolasco to the Marlins all those years ago

I hope so. 49 games is alot to just put on nerves though. What's he going to be like in Chicago. Who knows but with the luck the Cubbies have I'm not holding my breath.

Cubs are blowing up the whole thing and restarting from scratch...they will easily have the worst record in the league this year...

No pitching staff and no legitimate power from anywhere in the lineup...

Hopefully Theo's master plan won't take forever to see some kind of results..but I guess after 100+ years what's a few more..
