  • Baseball Free Agents, Will they sign?

We're into January and while it seems closer than it really is, spring training is coming up in the near future, and there are still MANY good free agents out there such as

    Garrett Anderson
    Rick Ankiel
    Erik Bedard
    Hank Blalock
    Bartono Colon
    Jose Contreas
    Johnny Damon
    Carlos Delgado
    Jermaine Dye
    Ryan Garko
    Jason Giambi
    Vladimir Guerrero
Orlando Hudson (type A free agent)
    Mike Jacobs
    Adam LaRoche
    Pedro Martinez
Bengie Molina (type A free agent)
    Brett Myers
    Xaiver Nady
    Vincente Padilla
    Ben Sheets
    Gary Sheffield
    John Smoltz
Miguel Tejada (type A free agent)
    Marcus Thames
    Chien-Ming Wang
    Jarrod Washburn

I probably missed a few good players, but the gist of the guys, you'd think are getting hit by the economy, personally i'd of rather the Tigers tried to get a guy like Miguel Tejada for 1-2 years to play SS rather than platoon Everett/Santiago again, also i'd like to see the Tigers take a chance on Sheets or Bedard, both have been injured but will probably come on the cheap side and are worth the risk i'd think

Can you explain the "Type A" thing...I don't know what that means haha

I would also like to see the Cardinals go after Ben Sheets as a fifth starter...

If he can stay healthy, he can be very effective.

I think the only way the Cardinals need to sign Ankiel is a 1 year deal and the way he played last year, fairly cheap...But I think we have enough OF anyway...

A type A free agent is where if they were to get signed with a team that they werent on the year before (example, Molina leaves the Giants and signs with Marlins) then the Marlins have to send the Giants there highest draft pick for the upcomming draft, so when AJ Burnett signed with NY last season, they gave there best pick for the next draft to Toronto

Oh okay thanks for clarifying that...What problem does that solve though?

I don't understand why they would do that...

I don't know lol, Class A guys are usually the "creme of the crop" players so its suppose to help a team out by losing a "star" getting a top pick. I know its wierd

Typical, someone who doesn't watch baseball....

He made the All-star team, only hit for the cycle on Opening Day, won a Gold Glove...

he's only been in the majors for 7, and like Jesse said he's been a game changer in recent years as well
