Rangers & Yu Darvish Agree to Deal

Even if they’d had a relatively quiet offseason, the two-time defending American League Champions could have been a playoff-caliber team in 2012. Yet they spent aggressively on one of the top available arms and became a little scarier in the process. The Rangers have agreed to sign Yu Darvish to a six-year deal worth $60MM. Agents Don Nomura and Arn Tellem represent the 6'5" 25-year-old and negotiated for bonuses that could be worth another $10MM.

He has a lot to prove, as the track record for pitchers coming over from Japan is sub-par, no matter what their records were overseas. They say you can't compare him to Daisuke Matsuzaka or Kei Igawa, but you have to, because no one else has proved otherwise. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

That is a ton of money to spend on a pitcher. It didnt work out so well for Boston with Dice-K other than 2 seasons.

Well, as expected, the news here in Japan is all Darvish. Just watched a 15-minute spot on the evening news breaking down the Rangers, American League, and how often Darvish will be facing off against Ichiro. It's gonna be a crazy season.
Thinking about picking up some Japanese Darvish cards. Anybody think I have a realistic chance of selling/trading them? Anybody here that would be interested?
Gotta get a Darvish Rangers jersey now...
