  • Remembering Gary Carter -- player and collector

    Hi gang,

Here is my blog on Gary Carter, recalling a 1981 interview I did with him about his baseball card collection.

The Sports Bookie - Bob D'Angelo: Carter’s death a loss for baseball and for card collectors - from TBO.com Sports

    Bob
"You see, you spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time.'' -- Jim Bouton, from the last sentence of "Ball Four"

Cool story. He was around before my time, but being a sports fan, all losses within the world of sports hit me the hardest, especially if it was way before their time to go. R.I.P Gary Carter. My prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.

I met Carter at the All Star fanfest in Cleveland, in the 90's. It was 96 or 97. He seemed like a nice guy. Cancer sucks. Sad story.

Very cool story Bob, I wonder if his collection will be taken over by someone in the family....or just auctioned off to the highest bidder?
Would be nice to know his collection will be respected, but who knows???

              God speed Gary

In 1998 I was living in Orlando. He came to a local card shop and signed autographs. I had to work and my wife surprised me by waiting in line to get his autograph for me. She said she was the only female in line. She was bummed to hear he passed since she had a connection with him.
