Expired codes

Question on cards with expired codes. If you buy a box from previous years what do you do with cards that have codes that have expired (i.e. Toppstown, SuperBowl legends giveaways, etc.)?
Do the cards still have a trading value?

I could be wrong, but I've always assumed that they are no good. I have thrown them out, except for the cards of players, like Toppstown and such.

Trading for all Cleveland teams in Cleveland uniforms, Cleveland minor league affiliates & Columbus Bluejackets
