  • Miguel Cabrera Out With a Fracture Under His Eye

According to Buster Olney of ESPN Miguel Cabrera will miss a few weeks with a small fracture under his right eye. Cabrera was hit in the face yesterday in a Spring Training game vs the Phillies when a hard hit ball took a bad hop. To see a video of the incident click here.

Cabrera, who was traded to the Tigers after the 2007 season has only missed 17 games in 4 seasons with Detroit.

This guy clearly never saw the replay...Besides, who said he was winning a gold glove? Everyone said he had no shot at playing 3rd base.

I saw the replay. Cabrera put his glove where he expected the ball to hop to and it landed about 4 feet higher. I can't wait for the trainwreck that is Drunk Miggy at 3rd all season lol

You could literally force Leyland to bench him if you just bunted the ball down the 3rd base line with every hitter on your team.

Fractured bone in his eye less than three weeks into Spring Training would indicate otherwise....just sayin

The ball took a bad hop..

                  Plus per Buster Olney

Chipper Jones told me that four days before Miguel Cabrera got mashed in the face in Clearwater, he wouldn't take grounders on same surface.

Chipper said the surface in Clearwater was too dried out--as with a lot of infields in Fla--and too fast, and conditions could hurt someone.
Philly needs a better surface, clearly.

I played 3B my entire time in high school. Never once did I get hit in the face during a game or practice.

Also, Adrian Beltre would have snagged it up like nothing.

High school is just like the pros, of course?

Nope. Pro fields actually have good surfaces, compared to the POS high school fields most kids play on.

Way to ruin your own argument lol

I meant as in how hard the ball would get hit. Hunter Pence crushed that ball. Is it possible Cabrera read the ball wrong and other 3rd basemen would've know it was about to bounce and go towards their face? Perhaps, but I wouldn't feel confident in that prediction.

He'll be ready for opening day he said though, and that's all that matters. I would be disapointed if he was on my rivals team though, so I understand your hate.

Kids in High School do use aluminium bats when they hit, it was no cakewalk.
