  • Chris Carpenter Out Indefinitely

Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter out indefinitely - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

First they get Wainwright back, now Carpenter is hurt. He will probably miss half the season. At least they won the World Series last season. This is going to be a rocky start to the year for the Cardinals even more so now.

Chris Carpenter has nerve irritation that has caused weakness in his pitching shoulder and the St. Louis Cardinals’ ace will be sidelined indefinitely.

I don't think he'll be out half of the season. This has probably more to do with overwork at the end of last season and not enough of a rest during the off season. The Cardinals have a lot of good arms in the farm system. Perhaps this will be an opening for Joe Kelly or Shelby Miller if the problem does drag on. It's been a great Spring for the Cardinals. Anyone that thinks the Cards wont be formidable without Pujols is in for a surprise.

I watched. The Cardinals looked pretty darn good against the Marlins. Losing Carp hurts, just on 15 day DL for now, but disagree about losing Pujols being a big factor. Pujols was in a horrible slump for months last season but the Cardinals still won. Other players will need to step it up a bit is all. Count them out if you want. Nobody gave them a chance last year either.
