Mike, it could be. It's a GREAT change from the past several seasons. All though they slipped, and fell to #2 in the A L EAST after last nights loss to the A's, they have still won 60% of their 1st 20 games. If they could do this ALL season they'd make the PLAYOFFS for the 1st time since 1997. Right now, three weeks into the season, they are playing very well. I hope they continue to win 60% throughout the season. Keep flying high "Birds" !!!!!!!!

Looking at today's stats and standings, these are a few things I noticed. There are a ton of other surprises and disappointments. These are just what stood out for me. Most of the players I mentioned below affects either my fantasy baseball team or my favorite baseball team.
Surprises
Orioles are on top of the AL East
Nationals are on top of the AL East
Dodgers are on top of the NL West
Dodgers are tied with the Rangers as the best team in baseball winning percentage wise
Matt Kemp leading the NL with 11 Home Runs, 24 RBIs, and a .425 batting average (he got robbed on NL MVP last season, he should win it this year)
Andre Either tied with Matt Kemp for most RBIs in NL with 24
Nick Swisher is leading the Yankees with 23 RBIs
Jake Peavy off to great start with 3 wins, a 1.67 ERA, and tossed a complete game against Boston only giving up 1 one.
David Freese with 5 Home Runs, 20 RBIs, and a .333 batting avg
Philip Humber tossing a Perfect Game
Disappointments
Red Sox are on the bottom of the AL East
Angels are on the bottom of the AL West
Angels are tied with the Padres as the worst team in baseball winning percentage wise
Albert Pujols has 0 Home Runs, 4 RBIs, and is batting .216 (Chone Figgins has better numbers on all 3 categories)

your last surprise is even a bigger surprise to me and our community. Phillip Humber is from the town I live in, and we were all really excited to see him do it. Yet, we were totally surprised.Collecting Colts and attempting super collector status with Marcus Easley

I will add two more pitchers to the list of disappointments. Mainly because both are on my fantasy team. LOL! The first person I listed is just brutal so far. The second person listed, its more his team's fault than it is his.
Clay Buchholz is 3-1 after today, but he gave up 6 earned runs and 5 walks today and has an era of 8.69 for the season.
Mark Buehrle got rocked today and is 1-4 for the season. Its not all his fault since the Marlins are not scoring any runs for him when he pitches. But the 4 losses is hurting my fantasy team.

Even though, overall, the "BIRDS" are off to a GREAT start I have one disappointment. My disappointment, so far, is that they HAVEN'T yet beat the Yankees. Hopefully tonight that disappointment will be lifted.
Have a good day, Rodney

I must say I'm suprised with two things:
Drew Smyly is pitching very well.
He lead the AL in ERA for the month of April. Who saw that coming?
I'm also suprised at just how bad the Royals have been , I knew they couldn't pitch, but I did expect them to hit well, and not be a half game out of last place.

My biggest surprise is the fast start of Derek Jeter in his hitting this year! He usually starts a little slow but he is hitting the ball all over the field.I collect mainly football these days, Maurice Jones Drew, Joe Flacco, Matt Forte, DeMarco Murray, Patrick Willis, Emmitt Smith and 1974 Topps. Baseball Derek Jeter. Basketball Kevin Garnett. Non Sports James Bond, Star Wars, Tomb Raider.

I wish I could say I was surprised at how awful Ubaldo is, but I'm not.
Antonetti was the only moron in the world that actually thought he would be good.

As a Red Sox fan, I think the thing I am most surprised by is Mike Aviles.
23 G / 96 AB / 19 R / 27 H / 6 2B / 5 HR / 19 RBI / 5 BB / 13 K / .281 (only 3 errors)
Extrapolate those stats over a year (which I agree would be unrealistic)...
155 G / 648 AB / 128 R / 182 H / 40 2B / 33 HR / 128 RBI / 33 BB / 87 K (20 errors)
Yeah, I know unrealistic. But if this guy can get 600 AB / 90 R / 170 H / 30 2B / 20 HR / 80 RBI I think I would be pretty happy. Since I didn't think he would make it out of the first couple weeks of the season.
Collecting any Boston Sports (base, insert,GU,Auto) All Teams (Red Sox,Celtics,Patriots,Bruins)
Also collect UNH Football/Hockey cards
Also now collecting any cards including all dupes of all the following :
MLB : Brian Wilson (Giants, Dodgers), Chris Carpenter (Blue Jays, Cardinals), Sam Fuld (Rays), Mike Flanagan (Orioles, Blue Jays), Phil Plantier (Padres, Red Sox), Jeff Locke (Pirates)

NBA : Matt Bonner (Spurs)
NHL : Steve Leach, James VanRiemsDyk, Jason Krog, Eric Boguniecki, Andy Brickley, Ty Conklin, Kevin Dean, Rod Langway, Bryan Muir, Daniel Winnik
I unfortunately can no longer afford to trade outside the US. Even rates to Canada are way too high now!

No, this book hasn't been "written every year before". The Orioles haven't had the consistent good starts by their starters in a very very very long time. Also, their bullpen is doing a great job. With the Orioles, it has been a very very very long time since anything like this has happened - a very pleasant surprise (hope it continues). Without a doubt, it has been their pitching that has gotten them to 16-9 because their hitting (as a team) isn't very good (not as good, yet, as last year).
