According to Brian Britten the Tigers will activate relief pitcher Luis Marte from the DL for Friday's game vs the Twins, and will option Luke Putkonen back to the Toledo Mudhens.
Marte injured his leg in the Tigers final spring training game after being named to the 25 man roster towards the end of spring training. Marte in limited time with the Tigers last season was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.91 WHIP. However, that was a small sample size (3 and 2/3 innings). In the minor leagues last season, Marte was 4-0 with a 1.92 ERA and .95 WHIP. He also averaged 11.2 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched, so it's safe to say the Tigers expect a positive contribution from him.
Luke Putkonen on the other hand, well, it's a good thing he's going back to Toledo. Putkonen with the Tigers this season was 0-2 with a 8.59 ERA and 2.59 WHIP in 7 and 1/3 innings pitched. To say that was bad would be an understatement.
